My name is Edina Silić. I was born in 1984 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where I graduated from the Faculty of Education and worked as school teacher of religious education. I came to Slovenia in 2008 at the onset of the economic crisis, when it was difficult to find a job, but that did not stop me from being socially active and useful.

I found my place in society through volunteering, which is well-organised in Slovenia and enables volunteers to work in fields which they find fulfilling.

As a volunteer, I worked in NGOs, established my first contacts, built a social network and obtained important experience. This work enriched my life.

I hope the country becomes much more involved in the field of intercultural understanding, the inclusion of intercultural content in the education system, and the attainment of better communication and understanding between cultures, groups and nations. So that it would encourage people, particularly minorities, and help them to be active and aware that active citizenship is important for the preservation of their identity and culture.

I fell in love with Slovenia’s countryside. The beautiful hills, pastures, lakes, waterfalls, nature parks, and the superbly-maintained mountain trails that lead to many peaks enable us to go to the hills by ourselves, and feel safe and wonderful.

I am glad to be part of a dynamic environment, full of diverse exercise and sports initiatives, and well-developed lifelong learning, and where hiking is one of the most popular leisure activities.
