Why is Slovenia also your country?

My first country is Mali where I was born and where I spent a happy early childhood, of which I am very proud. After graduation in 1978, I acquired a scholarship for studying forestry in the then Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Fate brought me to Slovenia, where I completed my studies and created a family. I have set up an extraordinary social network through a variety of activities. I have lived my life at different levels with the purpose of getting to know the Slovenian society and contributing something to it, regardless of whether I was planning on staying in Slovenia or returning to Mali. I have met extraordinary people in Slovenia and made many friends. Gradually, Slovenia has also become my country.

What has changed for the better since you came to Slovenia and started working here?

Slovenia has excellently carried out its process of democratization and independence and become a member of the European Union. The citizens of Slovenia peacefully and prudently respond to social processes and global challenges. They perceive changes and many understand that Slovenia is not only a part of the European Union but also a part of the world.

Why have you stayed here? Which are in your opinion the advantages of living in Slovenia?

I have stayed here because I was not burdened with the thought of where my life would be "better", in Slovenia or elsewhere. It is a matter of fate! Apart from educated people and natural beauties Slovenia also has a good education and health system and a good transport and telecommunication infrastructure.  However, all this must be nurtured. Slovenia is also situated at the meeting point of all major transport routes in Europe.

    What could be better?

It would be great if all of Slovenia operated as one single company, as one committed community, which would take advantage of its natural resources and the abilities of its citizens, and which would be open to opportunities offered in the broader international market.
