Since I was born at the beginning of 1990, the history and development of Slovenia’s independence have been closely intertwined with my personal history. Like all beginnings, mine and ours were full of ups and downs, but we nevertheless grew up into stable and mature wholes.

A view of Slovenia from abroad where I study is somewhat relative and characterised by comparisons of my current surroundings and situation, which is useful hopefully also for considering further development and the traps posed by development.

In my research work, I deal with the development of advanced technologies and innovation, which are well-developed fields in Slovenia, although frequently underestimated and overlooked. I am glad that more attention has been paid to this key part of our economic development in recent times.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the independent state, we must also think about the next 25 years, and not only of the past years. I hope we can make the best of the opportunities that are offered to us.
