25 years of independent Slovenia. Sometimes it seems as if independence happened yesterday and sometimes it seems so long ago. I lived in Slovenia for 10 of these 25 years and I have wonderful memories of it. Slovenia is home to friendly people. This is where I began my career; where I met people who are dear to my heart and who are still my friends to this day.

When I left to live abroad, I continued to closely follow the development of Slovenia. In recent years, its competitiveness has significantly declined. I would love to see a revival and resurgence in the Slovenia’s economic fortunes. It certainly meets the basic conditions for this: excellent natural environment and geographic location, well-developed infrastructure, satisfactory healthcare and system of education, skilled and educated human resources, a history of successful innovations, and hard-working people. If I were in the government, I would certainly immediately reform tax policies and prioritise digitalisation of the country. In these areas, we are lagging behind countries that we used to be well ahead of. Citizens need high-quality and high-speed services in order for our lives to be better and for Slovenia to continue being a country to which I love to return.
