Central ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of Slovenian diplomacy

22 May 2016 will mark 24 years since the admission of the Republic of Slovenia to the United Nations Organisation, which represented the culmination of Slovenia’s efforts to become an independent state.

By acquiring membership in this important international organisation, Slovenia became an equal member of the international community. Due to the importance of this achievement for Slovenian foreign policy, and to recognise Slovenian diplomacy, 22 May is now celebrated as Slovenian Diplomacy Day.

We will commemorate this year’s Slovenian Diplomacy Day, which also marks its 25th anniversary, with the central ceremony in Cankarjev dom on Thursday, 26 May 2016, starting at 19:00.

The ceremony will be hosted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Karl Erjavec, while the event will be held under the honorary auspices of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor. The President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor, Prime Minister Miro Cerar and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Erjavec will address the audience as honorary speakers.

Soloists Manca Izmajlova, mezzosoprano, Marko Fink, bass-baritone, Renato Chicco, piano, and Benjamin Izmajlov, violin, will perform for the musical portion of the ceremony.

In the Linhart Hall lobby, in which the celebration will be held, there will also be an exhibition titled “The role of diplomatic activities in the establishment of Slovenia as an independent state,” marking the 25th anniversary of Slovenian statehood.
