Slovenian Army Day – Devoted to their Homeland for a Quarter of a Century

On Sunday, 15th May, Slovenia will celebrate 25 years of its army – the Slovenian Armed Forces. On this day in 1991, the training of Slovenian soldiers in the Slovenian language began for the first time since World War II in two training centres in Ig and Pekre, and this was one of the basic conditions for the formation and development of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

The main ceremony, which will take place at 8 p.m. at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, will be broadcast live by Televizija Slovenija.

The main speaker will be the President of the Republic of Slovenia and the Supreme Commander of Defence Forces Borut Pahor. Those gathered at the ceremony will also be greeted by the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia Andreja Katič and the Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Major General Andrej Osterman.

The Orchestra of the Slovenian Armed Forces and other musical guests will provide entertainment for the ceremony, and the members of the Slovenian Armed Forces Guard of Honour will fire three salvoes from six cannons in honour of this holiday.
