Celebration of the 25th anniversary of the military formation in Kočevska Reka

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the military formation, the ceremony entitled "The day when Slovenian Armed Forces first showed its courage" will be held on the eve of this important event, on 16 December 2015 at 5 p.m.

For the first time in the history of independent Slovenia, the event will be co-organised with the Office of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, MORiS Federation of Societies and Clubs, Association for the Values of Slovenia's Independence, and the 1st Brigade of Slovenian Armed Forces. The Municipality of Kočevje, the host of the ceremony, also helped organise the event.

The joint event is the result of an agreement between the members of the MORiS Federation of Societies and Clubs and the Association for the Values of Slovenia's Independence in December 2014 and the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor. Last year, each organised their own event and the President of the Republic attended both; however, both organisations have guaranteed that, henceforward, this important milestone in the history of Slovenian independence will be celebrated together.   For the 25th anniversary of the independence of our country, we are also celebrating unity in our decision to form it, so this united event bears this message as well.

The preparations for this year's event are carried out in cooperation among all organisers who have also signed their names on the joint invitation. The programme will be carried out by the Slovenian Octet and the Orchestra of the Slovenian Armed Forces and soldiers of the 1st Brigade of the Slovenian Armed Forces as well as veteran first sergeants from organisations prior to Slovenia's independence will be involved as well.  The speakers at the celebration will be: the Commander of the 1st Brigade of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Roman Urbanč, the Mayor of the Municipality of Kočevje, Dr Vladimir Prebilič, the Member of the European Parliament and the first president of the Slovenian Government, Lojze Peterle, and the keynote speaker, the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor.
